Muddy Mary and Big Betty growing
The 'Queen of Freeride' - Big Betty and the "Downhill Monster ' - Muddy Mary are now more versatile: New sizes and versions are supplementing Schwalbe’s Freeride and Downhill offerings.
Until now there had been just Big Betty in a light Freeride version and Muddy Mary with a double carcass for Downhill. Now both tires are available in both versions.
Muddy Mary is an intermediate tire for all conditions that Schwalbe developed with the ten-times German Downhill champion, Marcus Klausmann. The idea for the Muddy Mary originates from Motocross. Schwalbe technician Markus Hachmeyer explained: "Intermediate tires can perform equally: griping in both soft, deep terrain and on hard tracks." This was so far the problem. Either the long lugs stuck firmly into the soft ground and then broke off on hard surfaces. Or the tires rolled perfectly on dry tracks, while in soft conditions the deep profile was missing to help them grip. Hachmeyer: "Muddy Mary combines both characteristics and so is the ideal competition allrounder."
Now Muddy Mary is available in a light Freeride version, as well as a Tubeless tire in size 2.35 inch.
Big Betty steals the hearts of Enduro riders
Big Betty is a light Freeride tire specially for stony and dry conditions. Here it has the upper-hand with outstanding grip and excellent low rolling characteristics. The profile is designed to enhance braking performance and for holding tight lines. "Big Betty has taken the world of Enduro riding by storm" recently announced ‘Der Bike’, a prominent German MTB magazine (edition 6/2007).
The range of Big Betty tires is now strengthened by a SnakeSkin sidewall that is just as durable as a rubberized sidewall, but clearly lighter. Now the tire weighs only 850 gram. Besides which Big Betty is now also available in both a specially durable Downhill version as well as a Tubeless tire.
Triple Compound or completely soft?
Muddy Mary and Big Betty have a Triple Compound – three mixtures combined that provide a base that offers low rolling resistance, a durable center tread and grippy shoulders.
All versions are also optionally available with the extremely sticky Gooey Gluey Compound (Exception: Tubeless).
